I spent at least 10 hours walking the show floor and reviewing all of the "new technology" and refaced "old technology" at LegalTech New York this week. And, my preliminary impression was that although attendance seemed to be down from last year, there we many more unemployed were roaming the floor in search of new opportunities than in previous year and the snow on Tuesday caused some to either cancel or delay their attendance, in general there seemed to be at least a modest buzz of enthusiasm for the industry in general and eDiscovery more specifically. The technologies that "caught my eye" and therefore where I ended up spending the majority of my time fit into the following categories: (1) Early Case Assessment (ECA) solutions, (2) security, (3) cloud computing and Software-as-as-Service (SaaS) offerings, the new generation of search technologies (with de-duping, near de-duping and email threading); and case management.
Later this week, I will provide a more in-depth overview of what I saw and what I think. However, my preliminary impression is that Early Case Assessment (ECA) solutions delivered via the Internet with aggressive consumption based pricing carried that day. At least for anyone that is concerned about reducing the overall cost of eDiscovery.
